Teachers in the Hazelwood School District are using starfall and have motivated reading fluency in 1st grade. How starfall can be used in the classroom I work with are pre-k students as an aid in the classroom . Our curriculum and teaching style is celebrating one letter a week. Starfall incorporates learning experiences that are virtual captivating for the student. We call it taking a walk with the letter. To scaffold learning I use the smart board to engage students to explore and interact with speech sounds in every interactive letter. Students then use their time writing modeled by the teacher words we learned from starfall in our journals. Children click on the letters in their order to see, hear, and manipulate the sounds and letters of the alphabet. Kinesthetic learners will love using American Sign Language to demonstrate their letter knowledge. At writing our students apply initial sounds to letters by matching the pictures (printed from teacher resources), and practice letter formation in their note books.
